Mind control
The film “The Homo Luden Awakes” on AnalogFolk’s website talks about rediscovering analogue play, with the evolution of video gaming from button bashing to the wii and beyond. The shift in focus from artificial intelligence to the human and social elements of play has been well commented on, but ‘where next?’ is more of an unknown and technology again seems to be catching up with sci-fi.
‘The Homo Luden Awakes’ claims mind control and biofeedback will be the next paradigm shift in gaming. The film shows Buzz Aldrin playing Brainball, a game that is controlled by passivity in the brain and mentions Neurosky who are working with Sega to produce video games also controlled by our thoughts.
Emotiv also take this beyond just gaming, allowing our minds to control machines, robots and online content. Their Epoc headset is due to go on sale to consumers this year.
